WATER REPELLENT white background

Why does water repellency matter?

Moisture is a constant challenge in industrial and marine environments. From humidity and condensation to wet weather conditions, if insulation absorbs water, it can lose performance, promote corrosion, and gain weight.

Mitigating these risks depends on selecting the right materials. Unlike some other insulation materials, ROCKWOOL stone wool insulation is naturally non-hygroscopic, meaning it doesn’t attract or absorb water from the surrounding environment. It’s also engineered to prevent water from penetrating the surface (water repellency), while its open structure allows any water vapour to escape easily.

ROCKWOOL stone wool insulation’s water repellency reduces the risk of weight gain through water absorption, a critical factor when heavier insulation means reduced onboard storage capacity and higher fuel consumption.

The exceptional water repellency of stone wool ensures robust and reliable insulation performance that you can rely on, even in very moist environments. When you’re thinking water repellency, think ROCKWOOL Technical Insulation.
